Thad's Talks

Scripture: Mark 10: 17-22
Homework: We all know the things that we need to let go. This week, think about the people that would support you in letting go. Who would be your support system? With whom would you allow yourself to be vulnerable? Try to identify those important people in your life.
Have a great week!

Scripture: Mark 10:13-16
Homework: Dig into the practice of gratitude with childlike ease. Say "thank you" this week. Say it once or everyday. Say it several times a minute. Whatever takes you deeper into the practice of gratitude.
Thanks for being part of Thad's! Have a great week!

Scripture: Mark 10:1-12
Divorce
Homework: Practice standing in the face of hurt with another human being. Sometimes, the most loving or healing thing you can do for someone is just being present. Don't try to fix anything. Just be with someone in pain.

Scripture: Mark 9:33-50
Homework: Find rest in your week. Make it a dedicated time when you can set aside any distractions and live into the restorative potential of solitude.

Scripture: Mark 9:14-32

Scripture: Mark 9:1-13
Homework: Live into the Easter season by listening for divine love and joy in the silence. Do not interrupt it. Wait for God to put a period on the end of that silence.
Bonus: Look for the self-sacrificial example of Jesus in the ones you love.
Have a great week!

Scripture: Mark 16:1-11
Homework: No homework-- it's Spring Break, right?
Have a great week!

GOOD FRIDAY
Scripture: The Passion According to Mark 15

Scripture: Mark 11:1-11
Homework: Live into the dynamics of Holy Week from Palm Sunday through Good Friday and on to Easter.

Scripture: Mark 8:26-38
Homework: It's easy as a waltzy 1-2-3, 1-2-3, 1-2-3... Let God lead. Identify something in your life where you are stepping on God's toes. Every morning this week, go back to that part of your life where you are fighting God's lead, and let that go. Find the good rhythm of God leading you.
Have a great week!

Scripture: Mark 8:13-26
Homework: Practice courage this week by distancing yourself from negativity.
Please note: the first three minutes of this sermon contain an overlapping audio file that was recorded alongside the sermon. This problem clears after that initial period.

Scripture: Mark 8:1-12
Homework: Get in touch with the sense of less is more when approaching God's love. Slim things down. There are two ways to do this. First, try to pare down your material goods. Give away something you are not using-- clothes, appliances, furniture, tools, etc. Another way is to slim down your thought by shutting down your computer or phone. Quiet your mind, and find God in that space.

Scripture: Mark 7:24-37
Homework: Work toward the bias of abundance or enough. Just before you go to sleep, write down one word or phrase that represents an area in which you felt the abundance of God's love. In the morning, look at that notecard (or Thad's Lenten Post-It pad). Start and end your day with a vision for abundance.

Scripture: Mark 7:1-23
Homework: Put more love in your minutes with the help of your new Thad's Lenten Novelty Post-Its. Whether you have the official Post-Its or just a piece of scrap paper, you can find inspiration here: www.gregbarrett.org

Scripture: Mark 6:45-56
Homework: Look for the miraculous in the ordinary. Whether it's through surfing, nature, a stranger's kindness, the birth of children, the fearless state of grace, or anything else, follow whatever sparks your eye for the miraculous.
To do this, be the change in the story about Maribeth's Christmas dinner at McDonald's. Someone else will supply the dollar. Be the person holding the change.

Scripture: Mark 6:30-44
PLEASE NOTE: Do to technical difficulties, the first five minutes of the podcast do not have the clarity of the remainder of the sermon, and small pieces of the sermon have been left out.
Homework: Put more love in your minutes by finding rest. Keep that rest simple. Don't fill it up with thoughts or activity. When you're ready, bring the restful mind to your approach to others, and find more love in your minutes.
Have a great week!

Scripture: Mark 6:14-29
Homework: Put more love in your minutes.
When novice ice climbers reach their summit, they often release the death grip they have held on their ice axes. As the blood returns to their hands, the pain is often so difficult that people either scream or vomit.
We often face life's difficulties like novice climbers. To go the distance, we have to lean back on our support of friends, family, and devotional practices and let the blood back in.
This week, lean back and let that blood back in. It won't add more minutes to your day, but it will add love to your minutes.
HAVE A GREAT WEEK!

Scripture: Mark 6:4-13
Homework: You have everything you need. You did not miss an email or a phone call that would have filled you in on the kingdom. You are complete. You are loved. Take that love, and pass it on to someone this week. For bonus points, pass that love to someone you do not like. Good luck!
Happy MLK day!
Have a great week!

Mark 6:1-6
Homework: Try to find that holy inversion of "the chirp." Rather than serving compliment sandwiches in which a critique is stuffed between flippant compliments, try to offer suggests that end with and emphasize the love from which you speak. Practice this with others or with yourself.
Have a great week!

Mark 5:21-43
