Happy Easter!
We apologize for technical issues we’ve experienced the last two Sundays, April 3 and 10, which have made posting the sermon podcast impossible at this time. We are working to resolve this issue, and we fully expect to be able to post the upcoming Palm Sunday sermon podcast.
Have a great week!
Thad’s Seminarian, Scott Claassen, will graduate in May from Yale Divinity School, and embark on a year-long journey investigating Christian response to climate change. Here is what Scott has to say about CarbonSabbath, and his incredible journey ahead:
“On June 5th, I will begin a one year carbon sabbath. During that time, I will rest from driving, flying, heating/cooling/lighting my home, and several other habits that contribute to climate change and the unnecessary harm of my neighbors and creation. Through resting, I hope to examine how best to love God and my neighbors in the face of climate change.
As part of that examination, I will cycle around the United States going from church to church in order to engage in dialogue with others about these issues. As I see it, it is not possible to love our neighbors without being conscious of how our actions affect those neighbors. A similar lack of awareness severely inhibits our ability to connect with the divine. Part of the reason for this lack of awareness is the frenetic lifestyles that rob us of our solitude and mindfulness. By resting, we can restore our connection to God and our neighbors while also doing our part to limit the effects of climate change.”
Join Thad’s in Santa Monica on June 5th, 2011, as we send Scott off on his Carbon Sabbath!
An adventure of this magnitude requires serious gear.
In a desire to support Scott, and show our commitment to his important work of investigating Christian response to climate change, the Thad’s community seeks to outfit Scott with the gear he needs to make the year-long journey.
We have registered Scott’s gear needs for Carbon Sabbath online making it simple and convenient for anyone who wishes to partner with Scott on this spiritual endeavor to sponsor him by purchasing gear online.
Simply go to www.MyRegistry.com, and view the registry. Purchase some gear for Scott yourself, or find some friends to share the cost. It’s one practical way we can support Scott, and be a part of the journey.
